Wayfinding / Signage Program
As the tourism pioneer in Butler County, one of the major strategic roles of Travel Butler County is to examine opportunities for enhancing tourism in Butler County.
In late 2008, Zeitgeist Consulting completed an extensive Destination Review as well as Product Development Recommendations for Butler County. One of the development recommendations was the need for a countywide wayfinding / signage program. As noted in the report, "in-community signage was fairly sparse and utilitarian. And, directional signage between communities was only of the standard government variety."
In 2009, the Board of Directors agreed to move forward with the implementation of a countywide wayfinding signage program. In late 2009, Merje was hired to develop and design a plan for Butler County.
In May 2012, Merje completed the programming, schematic design, design development and documentation.
Geograph was selected to conduct the fabrication and installation of the program. Phase 1 of the installation began in late November with an official unveiling of the first sign in Hamilton on January 9th, 2013. In 2018 phase 2 was completed with 30 new signs added to the program. These new destinations including the Butler County Airport, Oxford Visitors Bureau, Garver Family Farm, and the West Chester/Liberty Chamber Alliance. To date over 180 signs have been placed across the county, identifying and directing visitors and residents to the many wonderful attractions of Butler County.
